Sinning against others feels different when it’s against someone with whom we’re in a close relationship. We may know it’s wrong to sin against people, but if it’s not someone we have an intimate relationship with, it doesn’t really affect us emotionally. But if it’s someone who means something to us, we’re less likely to intentionally cause them pain. Understanding that we have a real, intimate relationship with God should make us think twice before behaving in a way that would cause Him pain.
